Recently I ran across a free tool that can be used by business owners to assess their IT effectiveness. The results of this survey will be released in January 2010 as the "SMB IT Effectiveness Index Annual Report". This report will be provided free of charge to survey participants.
The survey consists of 12 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete.Survey results so far indicate that 1 in 4 businesses with 100 employees or less score a 'D' or 'F'. If you take the survey and find that your score is lower than you would like it to be, you can read some of the suggested actions that will be provided based on your answers.
You can take the survey at www.iteffectivenessindex.com. If you don't have the knowledge and skills required to implement the suggested strategies, you should consider outsourcing the implementation to a reputable technology company, such as KI Technology Group. Just taking the survey will give you a basic understanding of the technologies available and strategies that you might be able to use to position your company correctly for the future.
As more and more businesses rely on technology and the internet to implement their business model, it is critical that small businesses do not fall behind in this important area.
