I'm sure you have all heard about social networking sites like MySpace and FaceBook. Perhaps you believe that this is a phenomenon just for kids. I know I thought so until I received an invitation to become LinkedIn.
The concept behind all of these sites is much the same - create your profile, invite your friends and create an online community. What makes LinkedIn different is that it is entirely professional. You can detail your work experience, education, group memberships and interests. You also have the opportunity to be recommended by others you have worked with or for, as well as ask and answer questions.
Once you have a few connections, you can search for other people that you would like to know and be introduced to them through someone that you already know. In just about a month, I have made connections to 76 people. What is amazing is that, through them, I could be introduced to over 1 million more with an introduction by a friend of a friend.
As a business owner, this is another way to promote your business. And it only takes a few minutes of your time! You can create links to your company website and your blog. If you are in sales and want to be introduced to a key contact - just figure out who you know that they know and ask!
If you aren't already LinkedIn, visit my profile and join. Then send me an invitation so we can get connected. If you are already LinkedIn and not part of my network, I'm looking for your invitation as well.
