I have several colleagues who have businesses similar to mine in the northeast, where ice has caused widespread power outages. One of them sent word today that he has but his backup and disaster recovery solution, the same one that we have been promoting to our clients, to the test with excellent results.
Here's the situation - one of his clients has no power, but does have the backup solution implemented. My colleague was able to take the backup device to a location that does have power, bring it up and virtualize his client's server. A few minor changes to the configuration, necessary because it isn't 'at home', and the client is now able to work remotely while they are waiting for power to be restored in their location. It is working flawlessly and I am sure this client is very glad that they implemented this solution earlier this year.
What about you? Are you prepared for a situation like this?
